The West of England Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Therapy Centre is based in Nailsea. Covering Bristol, parts of Somerset and South Wales, The Centre is run as a charity with no NHS or government funding. With our sights set on larger, purpose-built premises, we have just launched the 'Moonstone Appeal' to help raise money for this move. Please browse around our site to see the range of services we offer and how your donations will help benefit hundreds of people across the West.
The MS Therapy Centre was founded in 1985 by Jackie Brightwell - a woman caring for her husband, Ray, following a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Ray had taken part in a clinical trial of Oxygen Therapy and had responded well. Following the end of the clinical trial Jackie set about trying to set up a local branch of ARMS (Action Research into Multiple Sclerosis) and in doing so provide a facility to give Oxygen Therapy to people with MS in the Greater Bristol Area.
Following an 18 month appeal she raised the necessary money to install an 8 man oxygen therapy chamber and to buy two units at the Centre's current location in Nailsea. In the years following more therapies were added and today you can come to the Centre for Physiotherapy, Oxygen Therapy, Counselling, Aromatherapy, Reflexology.
The Centre also operates an MS Clinic to also offer general advice to people with MS such as Diet and continence issues.
Just a few quotes from people using the centre...
"Before I started Oxygen Therapy I was in bed 23 hours a day. The effect for me almost immediate, it has given me the energy to live again."
