Physiotherapy

The Physiotherapy department has four fully State Registered Physiotherapists and one Assistant physiotherapist who are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and belong to the Health Professions Council. Some staff are also members of The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Interested in Neurology (ACPIN). All Physiotherapists attend courses to maintain and improve their knowledge of treatment of MS, and liaise with other Health Care Professionals within the Centre and in the NHS.

The main aims of physiotherapy are:

  • General advice

  • To maintain and improve joint mobility

  • To prevent or reduce muscle spasms

  • To maintain and improve general fitness

  • To maintain and improve normal patterns of movement

  • To improve and maintain balance and coordination

  • To reduce ataxia

  • These in turn will help limb control, reduce spasticity, improve strength, aid walking and act against further secondary problems
